RIDE SMART - GROUP RIDING
All members should read this article and watch the video. Buchan Dirlers CC rides all should follow the Ride Smart Group Riding guidance and etiquette.

Effective group riding ensures that all riders have a safe and enjoyable ride, are protected from the worst of the elements for a significant part of the ride, allows all riders to stay together and helps regulate the pace of the group ensuring nobody is left behind.
BDCC RIDE CLASSIFICATIONS
We have three different levels of rides that we can offer our members -
EASY Ride
Riders joining this ride will be expected to ride at an average speed of between 12 to 14 mph with the actual speed of the ride being dictated by the slowest rider taking part on the day. This ride is no drop, so all riders should stay together throughout the ride. Group riding is encouraged, but there is an acknowledgement that with new riders joining the club at this level the group riding may be intermittent.
Rides will vary in length depending on the time of year.

INTERMEDIATE Ride
Riders joining this ride will be expected to ride at an average of between 15 to 17 mph with the actual speed of the ride being dictated by the slowest rider taking part on the day. The expectation is that riders will adhere to the club’s group riding policy, with new riders at this level being supported to adapt to group riding by fellow riders. Riding off the front of the group will not be tolerated.
Rides will vary in length depending on the time of year.
ADVANCED Ride
Riders joining this ride will be expected to ride at an average speed of over 17+ mph with the actual speed of the ride being dictated by the slowest rider taking part on the day. The expectation is that all riders on this ride will be proficient in group riding and will adhere to the club’s group riding policy. Riding off the front of the group will not be tolerated.
Rides will vary in length depending on the time of year.
If the number of riders attending any given group ride means that more than one group within that ride’s ability range can be accommodated, then the above rules apply in that each group will ride to the pace of its slowest rider on the day.
Each group ride will have a Ride Leader who will seek to ensure that all riders adhere to the groups riding etiquette as set out above.
Each ability ride will have its own published Strava route. Riders should put their name down on the Strava route based on the ability level that they intend to ride at.
